All our tails have happy endings
Our Mission
Pet Welfare is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, no-kill shelter located on Eglin Air Force Base in Northwest Florida.
Chief Master Sargeant James McAlum and his wife, Rose, established the shelter in 1982 to ease the hardship associated with rehoming a cherished pet due to the circumstances of a military member. In November 2002, Pet Welfare celebrated the opening of it's current facilit, and provides all necessary care for cats and dogs until a qualified adoption can be arranged, as space permits.
If Pet Welfare cannot take in the pet due to capacity limits, we will assist as much as possible in finding a suitable temporary home for the pet until the it can be adopted or until we have room to bring the cat or dog to our shelter to wait for its forever home. Pet Welfare also supports retired military members and their families and local civilians whenever possible.
Since 1982 our priority remains to support the military member and their family. Pet Welfare also coordinates with the surrounding community to do everything possible as space and funding permit to provide shelter to overflow from local animal shelters.
Pet Welfare receives no monetary support from the government. All of our financial support comes directly from donations, grants, and fundraisers. We also charge adoption fees equitable to other local rescues to help defray costs.
Pet Welfare has no paid staff and operates with a team of dedicated, motivated, hardworking volunteers devoting their free time to make life better and safer for all the animals entrusted in our care. A dedicated Board of Directors responsible for governing the rules, policies, and procedures outlined in our Constitution and Bylaws is elected annually to continue promoting the cause of Pet Welfare.
